Job Summary
About the Role:
Provide essential legal services to support BSP’s commercial operations. The Legal Officer will assist with contract reviews, legal advice, and compliance.

BSP is seeking a passionate and results-driven Legal Officer to join our Legal Services team within the Group Risk Management division. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the legal protection of BSP’s operations and support various business units by providing sound legal advice and representation.

Reporting to the Head of Legal Services, the Legal Officer will work collaboratively within the legal team to provide timely, accurate, and commercially sound legal advice. The role supports a range of internal clients across BSP and ensures that legal risks are identified, managed, and mitigated effectively.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
Law degree and legal practicing certificate.
Admitted to practice in the National and Supreme Courts of Papua New Guinea.
1–5 years of legal practice experience in litigation, commercial, or banking law
Proficient legal drafting and research skills.
Strong analytical ability and legal reasoning.
Experience advising on regulatory frameworks (e.g., Bank of PNG Prudential Standards, Government Acts, or National Court Rules). (desirable)
Familiarity with internal legal risk management processes in a banking or financial institution. (desirable)

Key Responsibilities:



  • Deliver accurate and practical legal advice and support across BSP’s operations.

  • Maintain high professional standards in all assigned tasks, ensuring confidentiality and legal compliance.

  • Manage case files and records using the Legal Services database.

  • Keep up to date with legal developments relevant to banking, commercial law, and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure practicing certificate is current and maintained.

  • Prepare and deliver required legal reports in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Uphold integrity and protect BSP’s interests in all legal matters.
