Job Summary
About the Role:
BSP, the leading financial services provider in the South Pacific, is seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Legal Officer to join our Legal Services team under the Group Risk Management division. This position plays a key role in supporting the legal governance of BSP’s operations, while also guiding and developing junior members of the Legal team.

Reporting directly to the Head of Legal Services, the Senior Legal Officer is responsible for delivering high-quality legal services across a wide range of banking operations. This role also contributes to the supervision, training, and development of Legal Officers, and acts as a senior point of legal reference within the team.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognised institution.
Admitted to practise in the National and Supreme Courts of Papua New Guinea.
5–8 years of post-admission experience in litigation, commercial, or banking law.
Strong knowledge of PNG laws and regulatory environment including the Bank of PNG Prudential Standards and relevant Government Acts.
Proven ability to manage complex legal matters and provide sound legal judgments.
Experience in a corporate in-house legal team or top-tier private practice.
Strong drafting, research, and analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Provide accurate, practical, and timely legal advice to all business units within BSP.

  • Handle complex legal matters and ensure BSP’s interests are adequately protected.

  • Oversee the preparation and management of legal files and records in accordance with legal practice standards.

  • Keep current with legal developments relevant to financial institutions.

  • Assist in mentoring and training Legal Officers and promoting legal knowledge sharing.

  • Maintain a valid practising certificate and uphold confidentiality at all times.

  • Prepare accurate and timely legal reports and internal communications.
